Who is responsible for your information?

Data Controller: Brian McCabe, operator of Homegrown.ie. The data controller decides how and why personal data is used for the Homegrown service.

Privacy contact: email hello@homegrown.ie. Homegrown has not appointed a Data Protection Officer.

What we collect

For growing-space requests and offers we collect your name, email, optional phone, county, town or local area, travel radius, space requested or offered, timing, optional access needs and notes, confirmation that you are 18 or over, matching consent, the privacy-notice version and consent time. Hosts also confirm that they own the land or have authority to offer it. Do not submit an exact address or full Eircode at the first stage.

Homegrown does not currently take payments for listings, introductions or plot use. If optional support payments are introduced later, the checkout, its payment provider and the applicable payment and refund terms will be shown before payment.

For the Ireland Grows petition we collect your name, email, county, confirmation that you are 18 or over, your express petition consent and the consent time. Campaign-update consent is separate and optional.

Newsletter or campaign consent is optional and separate from consent to assess a match. We use a hashed abuse-prevention identifier for up to seven days. We do not retain raw IP addresses or user-agent strings in lead or operational logs.

Why we use it and our legal basis

Who receives it?

Brian McCabe and the service providers used to host Homegrown, deliver service email and maintain its technical operation may process the minimum data needed to run the service. We do not sell contact details. We share a grower's or host's contact details with the other person only after both approve that specific proposed introduction. Petition names and counties may be sent to the public bodies identified above; petition email addresses remain private. We may disclose data where required by law.

How long we keep it

Unmatched leads are retained for up to 12 months. We will then request renewal or delete them. Petition signatures are retained until submission and reasonable follow-up are complete, for no longer than 24 months; after that Homegrown may retain only anonymised aggregate totals. A record may be closed, withdrawn or deleted earlier on request, subject to limited records that must be retained for security or legal reasons. Hashed abuse-prevention identifiers expire after seven days. Delivery and consent evidence is retained only as long as needed to demonstrate what happened.

Your rights

You may ask for access, correction, deletion, restriction, objection or portability where applicable, and may withdraw optional marketing consent at any time. Email hello@homegrown.ie. You may also complain to Ireland's Data Protection Commission.

Automated decisions and children

Homegrown does not make decisions about you solely by automated means. The service is for adults aged 18 or over. Do not submit another person's information unless you have a proper reason and are entitled to do so.

Cookies and analytics

Please read our Cookie Notice. Optional analytics must not be activated until you have made a cookie choice. Refusing optional analytics will not prevent you from using Homegrown.

International processing and changes

If a service provider processes data outside the EEA, Homegrown will use an appropriate lawful transfer mechanism and update this notice. Material changes will receive a new version date; existing consent will not silently be treated as consent to a materially different purpose.
